A simulation environment for ecological planning. Load any location from Explore Eden, shape the terrain, model water flow, and visualize regenerative planting strategies in a procedurally generated landscape.
Restore Eden is the simulation and planning environment of the Restoring Eden platform. When a user selects a location in Explore Eden, Restore Eden loads a procedurally generated landscape derived from that site's real geospatial data, with terrain, hydrology, climate, and species context already populated from the knowledge base.
From there, users model earthworks, simulate water behavior, and lay out planting plans informed by what actually grows in that bioregion, with a design tool grounded in ecological reality.
Voxel-based terrain derived from real elevation data. Shape landforms, cut swales, build berms, and model hugelkultur structures.
Real-time water flow modeling using fluvial hydrodynamics. Visualize how water moves across a site before breaking ground.
Place and visualize species suited to the site's climate zone, soil type, and ecoregion. Design multi-layered forest gardens informed by real ecological data.
Apply permaculture zone and sector analysis to any site. Identify sun paths, wind corridors, water catchment areas, and access routes.
Long-term target: live drone telemetry and weather station feeds creating a real-time digital twin of active restoration sites.
Generate structured design deliverables: maps, species lists, and phasing plans for any site.
Restore Eden is built around a rigorous permaculture design methodology developed through real project work. Every design begins with site analysis and moves through a standard sequence of maps: Boundary, Contour, Sector, Zone, Water, Access, Structures, W.A.S., Site Plan, and Guild Layout, producing a complete, actionable picture of a site.
Guild planting, the practice of selecting companion plants based on symbiotic ecological roles, is central to the planting design workflow. Species are drawn from the Explore Eden knowledge base, filtered by compatibility, hardiness zone, soil requirements, and succession stage appropriate to the site.
About the Broader Project βRestore Eden is in active development. The alpha milestone targets a convincing procedural environment with functional terrain shaping, pseudo-weather, real-time hydrodynamics, and location handoff from Explore Eden. The long-term roadmap leads to a fully calibrated digital twin with live sensor integration.
We are looking for Unreal Engine developers, environmental scientists, and permaculture designers to contribute to this effort.
